If you are eligible for VA Healthcare benefits, then you may qualify for an in-home caregiver as part of the VA Community Care Network. This caregiver, known as a Homemaker / Home Health Aide.

A Homemaker or Home Health Aide is a trained person who can come to a Veteran's home and help them take care of themselves and their daily activities. This program is for Veterans who need assistance with activities of daily living. Examples include

  • Meal prep and cooking

  • Getting dressed

  • Personal grooming

  • Showering or bathing

  • Toileting or incontinence care

  • Moving from one place to another

  • Getting to appointments

This program is also for Veterans who are isolated and could benefit from companionship and personal care assistance. Veterans who typically have family caregiving could also use this service for respite care, to allow their usual caregiver to take a vacation or simply time for rest. â€‹â€‹

The veteran will have to have a medical examination and assessment to determine the level of care needed. Some clients receive assistance a few hours per week, while others receive care every day.
